AN EXTENDED HEAT WAVE
IS NOW LOOKING POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK!!!
So, what is the official definition of a heat wave? It is
three straight days with high temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. Right now
it is looking as if that is a very real possibility for next week and it is
possible we could actually have 5 straight days with high temperatures over 90
degrees and temperatures could very well approach 100 degrees in some of the
warmer locations in Central and Northeastern NJ next week. If you have not already
done so, you should put air conditioners in place this weekend and make sure
that if you have central air conditioning that it is working properly.
Today we will have a slight chance of a shower or
thunderstorm this afternoon or evening as a cold front drops down from Canada.
It will be warmer today ahead of the cold front with highs in the upper 60’s to
low 70’s.
Tomorrow and Sunday will then be beautiful but a bit chilly
tomorrow with highs in the mid to upper 60’s, warming to the mid to upper 70’s
on Sunday.
Memorial Day is now looking much warmer as the warm front
should now move through on Memorial Day morning, allowing temperatures to warm
to the mid to upper 70’s in extreme Southeastern NY and extreme Northeastern
NJ, and the mid to upper 80’s everywhere else. There will however be a chance
of a shower or thunderstorm with the passage of the warm front, especially in
the morning.
Then, what I am seeing the potential for is something that I
have truly NEVER SEEN BEFORE so early in the year. If the weather this week
does not make it clear that climate change may be occurring, then nothing will.
We saw amazingly cool temperatures this week with highs only in the upper 50’s
the past couple of days, and now next week we may very well have an extended
heat wave with the potential for 5 straight days with highs over 90 degrees
throughout New Jersey, New York City, and Southeastern NY State from Tuesday
through next Saturday. In fact, some of the warmer locations in Central and Northeastern
NJ may approach 100 degrees. There will be variably cloudy skies with a slight
chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day.
A cold front may finally come through next Saturday night or
Sunday morning, allowing temperatures to cool back to more normal levels next
Sunday through Thursday, with highs mainly in the upper 70’s to low 80’s with a
slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm each day.
