Fantastic weekend, then chance for showers/thunderstorms…

First of all, I had talked about a vigorous low pressure area approaching from the west that had the potential to bring us some heavy showers and thunderstorms Thursday but we lucked out and it missed us to the south.  And when I said vigorous, I meant vigorous. This storm actually caused historic flash flooding when it passed through West Virginia, killing more than 20 people who were washed away in the flooding as houses and cars were swept away in the rapidly rising waters. Click here to read the story and watch the videos.

Well, we lucked out by not getting the historic flooding that West Virginia got, as the weather pattern we are currently in is pushing these storms to our south. However, we are in a drought now in the Allentown and New York City Metropolitan areas as rainfall amounts are more than 6 inches below normal so far this year. This is becoming a problem for farmers and anyone trying to grow anything. Click here to view the clickable U.S. Drought Monitor map and you will see the exact areas affected.

Moving forward, expect an absolutely fantastic weekend with highs in the 80’s today and the 80’s to low 90’s inland tomorrow and Monday. Perfect beach weather!

Then Monday night through Wednesday we will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms as a slow-moving cold front approaches the Allentown and New York City Metropolitan areas. This is our chance for some rain, but we will just have to wait and see what happens. It will be cooler Tuesday and Wednesday with the clouds, with high temperatures mainly in the 70’s to low 80’s Tuesday and the mid 70’s to mid 80’s Wednesday.

Thursday through Sunday then look fantastic again with highs rising from the upper 70’s to mid 80’s Thursday to the upper 80’s to low 90’s in inland locations by next Saturday.

We will then have a chance of showers and thunderstorms next Monday and Wednesday as a couple of cold fronts approach the area, with nice days next Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Highs should be mainly in the 70’s next Monday and Tuesday, rising to around 80 next Wednesday and the mid to upper 80’s by next Friday.

Have a fantastic day and go to the beach!

Don’t forget to install the new Edge Weather app if you did not already do so.

Search “edgeweather” in the Apple App Store or in the Google Play Store.

The fastest way to access the Edge Weather forecasts through the app is to click on the Edge Weather logo on the top third of the screen, or under the buttons for the Edge Weather Blog under the “About Edge Weather” and “Social Media” sections of the app.

Some improvements in the new app:

Useful links now available on the side bar that can be accessed by pressing the blue button on the top right of the screen. The useful links has access to key terms, local weather links, radar links, satellite links, and prior forecasts when I forecast storms from two weeks in advance.

Under "About Edge Weather" you will find links to some newspaper articles that I appeared in previously, as well as ways to submit photos or contact me.

Under "Social Media" you will find links to easily access Edge Weather on Twitter and on Facebook, as well as a new feature, “Edge Weather Forum”, where you can share any thoughts and ideas, and now Edge Weather YouTube videos!

Also added was an option to share the app with your friends in the "About Edge Weather" and "Social Media" sections of the app, as well as on the side bar, so please go ahead and share the app with your friends.

Enjoy and submit your recommendations under the appropriate link.  I am always looking for good ideas.
