Wednesday, August 31, 2016 - Morning Weather Discussion

A cold front is approaching, but then a heat wave is possible…

A cold front is approaching our area and warm air is streaming into our area ahead of this cold front today which will cause temperatures to rise to around 90 in many places. There will also be a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm, especially in Northeastern PA, Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT.

Tomorrow we will have a chance of a shower or thunderstorm early in the morning and then we will have clearing with highs in the low to mid 80’s in many locations.

Friday through Tuesday then look nice. It will start out cool with highs around 80 in many places Friday and Saturday, rising to the low to mid 80’s in most inland locations Sunday, the mid to upper 80’s Labor Day, and to the low 90’s in many places Tuesday.

Next Wednesday through Sunday there may be a heat wave as highs may make it to around 90 or higher in many places. In fact, temperatures could reach the mid to upper 90’s in some places next Wednesday through Friday. There will be a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm next Wednesday through Sunday.

Next Monday and Tuesday then look nice with highs in the mid to upper 70’s.

As for the tropics, a hurricane may develop in the Gulf of Mexico today and it will make landfall on the Florida Panhandle Thursday evening. This storm will then head northeastward and it will likely bring very difficult conditions to Southern Georgia and the Eastern Carolinas on Friday. It will also bring some rough surf to coastal locations in our area, so if you are planning on heading to the beach for the holiday weekend, please aware of this likelihood. Click here to read a statement about this from the National Weather Service. After the storm heads out into the Atlantic this weekend, it will then turn back around a bit and head in our direction. It may come close enough to the coast to bring some rain to Eastern Long Island and Southeastern New England, especially Cape Cod, Labor Day and possibly into Tuesday morning. We will have to watch this closely.

Have a fantastic day!
