Friday, October 21, 2016 - Morning Weather Discussion

Warm today, MUCH colder tomorrow with snow to our north…

It will remain quite warm today with highs in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s as warm air surges into our area ahead of an approaching strong cold front. There will be a chance for showers or a thunderstorm.

The strong cold front approaching from the west will merge with a tropical disturbance approaching from the Atlantic Ocean. These two systems will combine to form a strong Nor’easter near Eastern Long Island tonight. This storm will then move north through New England this weekend. This will drive cold air into our area behind the storm and cause heavy snow in parts of Northern New England.

Tomorrow there will be a chance of showers, ending in the afternoon. Temperatures will drop through the day, reaching the mid to upper 30’s in the afternoon in Northeastern PA, the low to mid 40’s in East Central PA, Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT, and the mid to upper 40’s in Central NJ, NYC, and on Long Island.

There is even a slight chance of some snowflakes mixing in with the rain in the higher elevations of Northeastern PA Saturday, with the possibility of light snowfall accumulations further north in the Catskills of Southeastern NY State. And further north up in the Adirondacks of Northern New York State, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and in the White Mountains of Northern New Hampshire, there could be significant snowfall accumulations. The big snowfall winner right now looks to be the Adirondacks in Northern New York State where as much as a foot or more of snow may fall tomorrow into Sunday morning.

Sunday should start out nice but clouds will increase in the afternoon as a weak disturbance passes through our area at night. This will bring us a chance of a shower Sunday night. Highs will range from the mid 50’s to the low 60’s.

Monday through Wednesday then look nice, but cool, with highs in the 50’s to low 60’s Monday, the upper 40’s to mid 50’s Tuesday, and the low to mid 50’s Wednesday. It will be quite chilly Wednesday morning with lows dropping to the low 30’s in Northeastern PA.

Thursday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower as a cold front approaches our area. Highs will be mainly from the upper 50’s to the mid 60’s.

Next Friday through Sunday will then be nice but cooler with highs in the 50’s to low 60’s next Friday, the mid 40’s to low 50’s next Saturday, and the low to mid 50’s next Sunday. Next Saturday and Sunday mornings will be quite chilly with lows dropping to the low 30’s in Northeastern PA and to the upper 20’s to mid 30’s in all inland locations next Sunday morning.

Next Monday and Wednesday look to be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower Monday night and Wednesday. Highs will be in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s next Monday and the mid 50’s to low 60’s next Wednesday.

Next Tuesday and Thursday look nice with highs in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s next Tuesday and the mid 50’s to low 60’s next Thursday.

Have a fantastic day!
