Thursday, October 20, 2016 - Morning Weather Discussion

Strong Nor’easter to form tomorrow…

A cold front is approaching our area today, bringing a chance of showers and cooler temperatures in many places with highs ranging from the low to mid 60’s in Northeastern PA to the mid 70’s in parts of West Central NJ.

Tomorrow the cold front will get closer and a tropical disturbance will approach from the Atlantic. The cold front and the tropical disturbance will combine and form a strong Nor’easter near Eastern Long Island Friday night. This storm will then move due north through Eastern New England. This will bring our area a chance of showers tomorrow with highs in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s. The rain could be heavy at times tomorrow afternoon and night on Eastern Long Island, where there is the potential for up to 5 inches of rain on the extreme Eastern tip of Long Island.

There could actually be a few snowflakes mixed in with the rain on Saturday in Northeastern PA, and there could even be some minor accumulations as close as the Catskills in New York.  Up in the Adirondacks in New York, the Green Mountains in Vermont, Northeastern Vermont, and in Northern New Hampshire there could actually be 6 inches or more of snow in the higher locations.

The showers will continue through much of the day on Saturday, coming to an end by late afternoon or early evening in most places, and possibly in the early afternoon in East Central PA and Central NJ. Highs will range from the mid 40’s to the mid 50’s.

Sunday will then be mostly sunny with a chance of showers at night as a disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 50’s to low 60’s.

Monday will be variably cloudy with a slight chance of a shower and highs ranging from around 50 in Northeastern PA to around 60 in Central NJ and NYC.

Tuesday and Wednesday then look nice but quite chilly with highs ranging from the mid 40’s in Northeastern PA to the mid 50’s in Central NJ Tuesday and the low to mid 40’s in Northeastern PA to the low to mid 50’s along the coast and on Long Island Wednesday.

Next Thursday we will have increasing cloudiness with a chance of shower in the afternoon and at night. Highs will range from around 40 in Northeastern PA to the low to mid 50’s along the coast and on Long Island.

Next Friday and Saturday then look nice and warmer with highs in the 60’s to low 70’s in most places next Friday and the upper 60’s to mid 70’s next Saturday.

Next Sunday through Wednesday then look to be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower each day and highs in the mid to upper 60’s next Sunday and Monday and the upper 60’s to low 70’s next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a fantastic day!
