Friday, February 23, 2018 - Morning Weather Discussion

There remains a chance of a slow-moving, strong, Nor’easter next Thursday into Friday…

Today we will again have a chance of some rain, and temperatures could get below freezing in some of the higher elevations in Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, and Southeastern NY State. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Tomorrow rain will develop again in the afternoon and continuing through Sunday morning, with clearing likely Sunday afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the mid 40’s to mid 50’s Saturday and the 40’s to low 50’s Sunday.

Monday through Wednesday will then be nice with highs rising from the upper 40’s to low 50’s Monday, to the 50’s Tuesday, and the mid 50’s to low 60’s Wednesday.

Thursday things may then start getting interesting as a strong disturbance will approach from the west. As it moves eastward into Ohio it will start to encounter a strong block along the East Coast. This will cause the strong disturbance over Ohio to start to redevelop near the coast of the Delmarva Peninsula. This would cause rain or snow to develop throughout our area Thursday afternoon. Highs Thursday will be in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.

Thursday night into Friday the rain or snow will continue, possibly heavy at times, as the storm strengthens and very slowly moves eastward. Highs will be in the 30’s. Precipitation amounts could be quite high with this storm due to it moving very slowly. Whether this is a big rain or snow storm will depend upon where and how exactly this storm develops. It is still a long way out and we will have to continue to watch this potential storm very closely.

Next Saturday and Sunday then look nice with highs in the 40’s.

Next Monday another strong disturbance will be approaching from the west and this one will also reach the strong block in place along the East Coast, potentially causing it to redevelop near the Middle Atlantic Coast. It may also move very slowly, bringing us a chance of rain or snow developing next Monday afternoon or evening and continuing through next Thursday, as the block could prevent it from moving eastward. Highs will be in the 40’s next Monday and the mid 30’s to low 40’s next Tuesday through Thursday, depending on exactly where this storm develops.
