Category 4 Ian headed right for my father’s house, literally. I am not exaggerating. The eye may go right over my father’s home…

Category 4 Ian is headed for a landfall near Englewood, Florida today. My father lives very close to there and may actually be in a bit worse position, just to the southeast of the center of landfall. The strongest winds and strongest storm surge are in the southeastern quadrant of hurricanes, and that is exactly where he is. His home is very close to Charlotte Harbor, and right on a canal that goes out to the Gulf of Mexico. His home is probably a quarter to a half of a mile from the harbor. I have been trying to get him to evacuate for while and have been updating him consistently, but he has decided to remain. Flooding and wind damage will be catastrophic in areas north of Fort Myers and southeast of Tampa Bay.

As for our area, the remnants of Ian will reach our area Saturday and could possibly last through Tuesday or end as early as Sunday night depending on the exact track. We will just have to wait and see. Winds could become gusty, especially along the coast and on Long Island and there is the potential for heavy rainfall in parts of Central and Southern NJ, but it is still too early to tell. In any event, in our area, this does NOT look like a very big deal at all.
