Friday, January 17th, 2014 - Evening Weather Discussion

I may end up having been right after all for looking at the possibility of a storm for the middle of next week, but first, we will have a chance of a dusting to an inch of snow tomorrow morning, then a chance for a snow shower on Sunday and again on Monday afternoon.  Then it will get very cold with just a slight chance for snow on Tuesday and Wednesday and a better chance of snow for Thursday as several disturbances pass by our area.  I don't feel comfortable with any model solution right now, and I definitely felt uncomfortable with the European model this morning that had all of the storms missing us.  It just did not seem likely that all of these disturbances would miss us.  This afternoon the European model decided to focus on the disturbance for Thursday and I will fly with that, but honestly, I think it could just as easily come back and be on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I definitely think that one of these will blow up into a significant storm and it will be very cold.  So anyway, what I am saying is that I believe that there will be a significant snowstorm around the middle of the week, whether it is Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday remains yet to be determined, although right now you have to lean towards Thursday.  After that storm passes it will get even colder and another storm will likely bring us more snow next Sunday, then we will have to watch another possible storm for the following Wednesday.  Someone mentioned to me today that one of my competitor's was mentioning that this Super Bowl is going to be the coldest ever with a high of 18 degrees that day and so on.  Well, in my opinion, I did not feel that the models were out far enough yet to make statements like that.  Well, I am not saying this will happen yet at all, but as of right now, both the American and European models show this impending cold weather breaking just in time for Super Bowl weekend, with temperatures possibly making it into the 50's.  So, I would hold off on any temperatures predictions that far out.  I said it would likely be very cold until the end of the month, but I was not ready to go any further than that.  Check back tomorrow to see where we stand for the impending cold weather and snow chances.
