Saturday Morning's Weather Discussion - Interesting Possibilities Once Again Reappear for Thanksgiving Week
Today and tomorrow will be sunny with highs in the middle 50’s today, and tomorrow in the upper 50’s. Monday there will be a chance of a shower with the high around 60. Tuesday a front will approach our area, bringing with it a chance of showers. Wednesday will then clear out and then temperatures will finally start to fall on Thursday and Friday will be quite cool, with morning lows on Friday possibly getting into the middle 20’s in some locations. Next weekend looks all right now, with just a slight chance of a shower on Sunday, then a chance of a shower on Monday as another front approaches our area. Then as we approach Thanksgiving, we need to worry about the possibility of colder air moving in behind a cold front on Monday night and remaining in our area for the rest of the week and past Thanksgiving weekend. My concern is with the fact that I have been watching the potential for a storm or two during Thanksgiving week for quite some time now. Although the threats looked to disappear on model runs completely for the past day and a half, the potential is again showing up, especially on the extended European model, which runs out to 15 days, beyond the 10 days of the higher resolution European model. The concern is that this potential has now shown up on one model or other for many days now, excluding yesterday and part of the day before, and the location and intensity on the extended European model looks very similar to prior runs. This raises red flags for me in a big way. Of course, it is still a very long way out and until we get within 10 days and the higher resolution model can notice this potential, it will remain just an interesting possibility that I feel it is important to mention. The extended European model currently shows the potential of one weaker storm moving through our area on Tuesday with the chance of rain or snow, most likely rain, but close to being a snow threat, and then a Nor’easter forming near the Delmarva peninsula on Thanksgiving day and moving off the New Jersey coast on the day after Thanksgiving. Both the American and European models have been focusing on the potential for a Nor’easter forming in this exact location and of similar intensity now for many days, on one model or other and at one time or other between the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving. So, for now, I will re-introduce the possibility of a major Nor’easter forming in our area sometime around Thanksgiving Day that could bring with it significant snow. Of course, I must remind you that this is a very long way out and it is just a possibility at this time and something that is fun to watch, but it is not my official forecast. Until it gets within 10 days and the higher resolution European model can start to see the potential, it remains for entertainment purposes only and just an interesting possibility. Stay tuned and check back daily. Have a great day everyone!
