Thursday Morning's Weather Discussion - Chances for a White Christmas Return!
Well, an interesting turn of events is possible, for just prior to Christmas. The hope of a Christmas miracle returns! First, today there will be showers as a weak storm system and its associated cold front approaches our area, but at least it will be warm, with the high temperatures around 50. Tomorrow it will dry out and cool down with the high in the lower 40’s. There is an outside chance of a flurry on Friday night through Sunday, as a very weak storm system will be passing over us. It will be cold for the weekend with the lows around 20 and the highs only in the 30’s. There is an outside chance of some flurries or light snow on Monday or Tuesday, but I did not even put it in my forecast because it looks like a very small chance right now. Wednesday a storm system will start to approach our area but the rain should hold off until Thursday. I had posted about the possibility of a coastal storm for next week, about a week ago, saying it should be somewhere near the Delmarva Peninsula and then off the New Jersey coast. Well, it now looks like I was exactly right, although I thought it would be on Monday, but it now looks like it will be on Thursday that this will happen. I did also mention the possibility that this one could be rain, and it will be rain. Honestly, it is amazing that we could have a storm in such a favorable location for snow in the middle of December and have the cold air in place until a day before the storm, then the storm comes in and the cold air is gone, but anyway, this storm will be rain unless something dramatic changes quickly. Therefore, this leaves us with our last possibility for a white Christmas being a storm that will develop along the Gulf Coast, or in the Gulf of Mexico next Friday. This storm will then head in our direction. There are many questions that still need to be answered with this storm, as far as intensity and track, which will determine whether this storm is rain or snow. Yesterday this storm looked to be rain, but today there were enough changes in the models overnight for me to change this forecast for next Friday afternoon into Christmas Eve to rain or snow. Stay tuned!
