I had been talking all week about the slight chance of
seeing a snowflake yesterday, and well, I did see one yesterday, kind of. When I was heading south on Route 287
yesterday through Northern Morris County after work, I did see some of the Lake
Effect showers off of Lake Ontario that were moving through our area. If you looked closely and knew what you were
looking for, you could see the snow falling from the clouds and making it at
least half-way to the ground before melting and changing to rain. Therefore, we were really close to seeing our
first snowflakes in some locations yesterday.
I would not be surprised if some of the snowflakes made it to the ground
in the highest locations of Northern New Jersey and Southern New York State. The temperatures did drop from the upper 50’s
to the upper 40’s during those showers, and earlier in the day when the showers
starting in the morning the temperature was only 43 degrees. The cold air that moved in yesterday dropped
the temperature to 28 degrees in my location, bringing the first freeze of the
season here and in many other places throughout Northern New Jersey, although
the cold temperatures will be short lived, and will be gone by tomorrow. It
will be quite warm on Sunday and Monday with the high in the upper 60’s. We will see some great weather for the next
week, with the only chance of rain being just a slight chance of a shower tonight;
otherwise, it will be sunny to mostly sunny for the next week until next Saturday, with the exception of Monday when it may be cloudy. Next Saturday a strong upper
level low-pressure area may approach our area, bringing with it a chance for
some heavy flooding rains next Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. The warmth should continue after next weekend’s
possible storm, with highs again around 70 next Sunday.
