Three Things are Really Helping Us Right Now With This Storm

One is, as I stated earlier, there are no thunderstorms within this storm since it is a hybrid Nor'easter and Hurricane. So, even though it has the lowest central pressure of any storm to ever hit New Jersey and it is one of the strongest storms to ever hit the United States, without the thunderstorms, the strongest of the winds are remaining at cloud level and are not being forced to the surface. Otherwise the winds would be much worse.  Second, is that the storm shifted 50 miles to the south of the forecast landfall at Toms River over night, and this made a big difference as well.  We were supposed to have been in the outer eye wall of the storm, where Middlesex and Monmouth counties are now, where my sister and mom are without power due to the extremely windy conditions there.  Thirdly, with this shift south, the rains are not that heavy either.  I have been saying that the rains were not my main concern with this system, but the winds were.  Now, with this storm moving even further to the south, the heavy rains were shifted even further south, which keeps the ground harder since it was already dry.  So, we had a few things going for us with this storm, even though it was the strongest storm to ever hit New Jersey, it could have been worse for us here than it was.
