Saturday Morning's Weather Discussion - Snow Likely on Tuesday

A cold front came through late last night and brought much colder weather into our area for the weekend.  We will also have a chance of a Lake Effect snow shower today off the Great Lakes and   temperatures will remain cool through Monday.  Then on Tuesday, a storm system will develop in the Southeastern United States and will move in our direction, brining a chance of snow for our area.  The snow should begin in the morning and continue throughout the day, ending in the early morning hours on Wednesday.  As of right now, I am expecting this entire storm to be snow, even though currently the American and U.S. Navel models are showing a mixture of rain and snow.  Since I am expecting this storm to be all snow, as the European model currently shows, I am expecting total accumulations throughout our area to be 3-8 inches.  The American and U.S. Navy models would even support these lower amounts with the mix.  The European model has us as all snow, but has less precipitation, indicating around 3 inches of accumulation, while the U.S. Navy and American models show a mixture, but still manage to produce at least 3 inches of accumulation.  Again, however, I really do expect this to be an all-snow event throughout our area.  It was interesting to see the European model finally come around to seeing this storm again.  It is rare for the European model to miss a storm that badly, two runs in a row, less than 6 days out, but even the European model makes some mistakes.  There is one other significant change in the forecast.  Next weekend the models were showing some very cold air moving down from Canada, which they still show, but they manage to keep it just north of our area, and in fact start moving quite warm air back into our area, producing high temperatures in the 50’s next Sunday and Monday.  Check back for continuous updates on this potential Tuesday storm.  Again, on a side note, the bowling team at Indian Hills High School in Oakland, NJ is doing a fundraiser for Superstorm Sandy relief.  I would encourage everyone who reads this blog to consider donating $20 to Superstorm Sandy relief, and with your donation, you will receive a “The Edge Weather” T-shirt.   Again, proceeds will be going to Superstorm Sandy relief, and will benefit people who were affected by this terrible storm.  If you attend Indian Hills High School or know someone who does, please see an Indian Hills bowler, Mr. Michels, someone from the Technology Department, or Mr. Edgerton with your donation of $20 cash, or check made payable to “Indian Hills High School”.  Thank you.
