The pre-Thanksgiving Nor’easter that I have been talking
about for more than a week will start to form on Sunday and then it looks as if
the European model had the right idea first, with the storm making a right hand turn and heading out to sea on
Sunday and Monday. While taking a tour
of the Atlantic Ocean the storm will start to strengthen dramatically, becoming
a powerful Nor’easter and then probably making a left hand turn on Tuesday and
making another run in our direction, possibly reaching us on Wednesday and
continuing until Thursday and possibly Friday.
It may make it all the way back to us or it may get close and side-swipe
us, or it could get close to us on Wednesday and Thursday, but stay just far
enough away so that it only affects us with clouds. In addition, the next question is whether the
storm would be able to wrap the cold air in to it from Canada. The latest run of the European model
strengthens the storm into a very powerful Nor’easter and brings it close
enough to us on Wednesday to bring us a bit of rain, with the heavy rain
remaining just to our East from New York City and areas east, with more than
1.5 inches of rain. In addition, the model
gets very close to wrapping the cold air into it as well. This is telling me that if this storm were a
little further west, affecting us with a full-force hit, it might be close
enough to the cold air to wrap it into the circulation. There are many questions at this point and we
will just have to wait and see. Check
back for updates.
