The snow should start between 8:00am and 10:00am throughout Northern
New Jersey this morning and end between 8:00pm and 10:00pm, with 3-6 inches of
accumulation, as we are sideswiped by a developing Nor’easter that will bring
Eastern New England blizzard conditions tonight and tomorrow morning. After this storm passes, the next concern
will be a weak storm system that will be heading our way at a very inopportune
time, for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
This weak storm system may bring some light snow or flurries to our area
for both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
The snow could accumulate to a dusting to an inch on both New Year’s Eve
and New Year’s Day. After this weak
storm system passes, the temperatures will drop to dangerous levels by Thursday
morning, when low temperatures are likely to be around zero throughout Northern
New Jersey, with many areas likely to be below zero. Then we will have to watch a storm system
developing in the Gulf of Mexico. The
extremely cold air in place over our area late next week will likely keep this
storm system to our south and east, but we will need to watch it closely just
in case. If by any chance this storm
comes further north into our area, then it would actually warm things up a bit
as the clouds and any snow that would develop would help insulate us from the
extreme cold, but right now the cold is looking more likely to win this battle.
Then another storm system will likely
approach our area for next weekend, but again, it may be kept south and east of
our area by the extremely cold air mass in place over our area.
