We will continue to have some cold weather this weekend, and
then we will have to watch for a weak storm system heading our way for
Monday. This system should bring us some
light snow starting around 7am in western sections and 8am in eastern sections,
and accumulating to a dusting to an inch before changing to light sleet and
then light freezing rain and drizzle in the afternoon and ending around 10pm,
with some ice accumulation likely. There
will not be much precipitation with this storm, but the main concern will be
the possibility of the light freezing rain or freezing drizzle on Monday
afternoon and night. It does not take
much freezing rain to create severe travel problems, especially on any roads
that are not treated properly with salt, so if you are expecting to travel on
Monday, especially in the afternoon and at night, please be very careful. Tuesday will be a nicer day, and it will warm
up quite a bit with the highs reaching the upper 40’s, although there will be a
chance of a shower. Wednesday should be
very warm as a strong cold front will be approaching our area from the west,
but the warm air will surge north into our area from the southeastern United
States, causing temperatures to rise to the mid to upper 50’s by Wednesday
night. The cold front will then move
through our area early on Thursday morning, dropping temperatures quickly. At the same time, a storm system may form
along this front over the southeastern United States and move along the front
and in our direction. There is a chance
that this storm could cause some precipitation to fall behind the front and
into the cold air, changing the rain to snow early on Thursday morning before
ending late on Thursday morning, and there is the possibility that it could
accumulate. There is also a possibility that
this storm will not form along the front, which would mean that things would
just dry out for Thursday without any snow at all, so check back for
updates. Weak storms may then move
through our area on Friday, and again on Saturday night into Sunday, bringing a
chance of some light snow on Friday and again on Saturday night into Sunday,
and there could be light accumulations with both of these weak storms. Please check back for updates and enjoy your
day.
