The snow will start this morning around 7am and will become
steady and moderate by around 10am, and heavy at times by around 1pm, and
continue heavy at times through the night, ending between 5am and 6am tomorrow
morning. The storm today is going to be quite significant, with near blizzard
conditions throughout our area by late this afternoon and through
tonight. It looks as if we may just miss the worst of the storm. The
worst of the snow may remain just slightly to our east for Long Island, Connecticut,
and Eastern Massachusetts. Our area
should still see a general 10-18 inches of snow with the lower amounts in
western sections along the Delaware River and the higher amounts in eastern
sections along the Hudson River, with locally higher amounts possible
throughout the area. Please be sure to be off the roads by late this
afternoon and be prepared for the possibility of some localized power outages,
keeping in mind that if there are power outages the line workers may not be
able to get out making repairs until at least Sunday. In addition, Sunday
morning lows are expected to be in the mid to upper single digits, so make sure
you have an alternate heat source if necessary. After this storm passes,
we will have to watch for the possibility of some freezing rain developing
around 4am on Monday morning as another storm approaches our area. The
temperatures should warm above freezing by around 8am on Monday, but there
could be some ice accumulations in our area for the Monday morning commute.
Then we have to turn our eyes toward a possible snowstorm for Wednesday
afternoon into Thursday morning, although the models disagree on just how close
this storm will get to our area, so I have it listed as just a slight chance of
snow right now. We will need to keep a close eye on that potential.
Then we need to turn our eyes to yet another possible developing storm along
the Gulf of Mexico next Saturday that could possibly turn into yet another
powerful Nor’easter to affect our area for next Sunday. Check back for
updates.
