Monday, October 7th, 2013 - Evening Weather Discussion
Wow, what a ride today was! It started out warm this morning, then we got very heavy showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, I even heard a transformer explode while I was teaching class today, then the lights went out briefly. Then it absolutely poured rain and Rt. 287 flooded, there were accidents and downed power lines and limbs everywhere on the ride home. I even saw a hook echo on the radar at one point over Chester, New Jersey, although I did not hear any reports of tornadoes yet, so it may have just been circulation within the storm rather than an actual tornado reaching the ground. Now it has cooled down quite substantially and after turning the air conditioning on briefly when I got home, I am probably going to have to turn the heat on soon. Crazy day. Well, the crazy weather is not going to end any time soon. We will get a bit of a reprieve for a couple of days with a nice day tomorrow and Wednesday, then a low pressure area or Nor'easter will form near the Carolina Coast and move into our area, bringing with it rain for Thursday and Friday. The models have been all over the place with the timing of this storm, originally having it starting on Thursday, then for the weekend, then for Friday, now back to Thursday, so for now, let's go with Thursday and Friday, lingering into Saturday morning, possibly stopping by Saturday afternoon. The European model then moves it just far enough off shore to keep it dry here for the rest of the weekend and into next week, but also develops the storm into a Tropical Storm, or possibly even a weak Hurricane prior to finally moving it out to sea next Tuesday. That is one crazy solution, but I will believe just about anything nowadays, and who knows what this storm will eventually end up doing, so stay tuned. It is definitely something to watch.
