European Model Says We May Come Close to Getting an "Official" White Christmas
The "official" definition of a White Christmas in the United States is 1 inch of snow measured on the ground at 7 am on Christmas morning. The European model is now very close to doing just that tomorrow afternoon and evening, giving us a quick shot of snow squalls sometime about 4-5 pm with around a half an inch to an inch of snow. If you are planning on traveling tomorrow afternoon be on the lookout for these snow squalls. They should be quick hitting, lasting only about an hour or so, but they will cause very slippery road conditions and near white-out conditions for a brief period of time in the locations that are hit by them. This will likely lead to roads becoming very slick with many car accidents likely, as the traffic will be quite heavy at that time with holiday travelers who will be quite surprised by how quickly these squalls develop, and how rapidly the snow comes down and accumulates on the roads. The model then took a major step in the direction of producing my New Year's Eve snowstorm, producing a couple of inches of snow on New Year's Eve, but with the potential to produce something much more significant. Be careful if traveling tomorrow afternoon, specifically focusing on the hours between 3 and 6 pm right now with the main focus appearing to be around 4-5 pm.
