Friday, January 3rd, 2014 - Evening Weather Discussion
Temperatures will likely drop to levels we have not seen in many years tonight as we will get below zero, most likely to the mid digits below zero, with the coldest locations likely to approach 10 degrees below zero. Then a storm system and arctic cold front will approach on Monday, causing light rain to develop in the late afternoon on Sunday, possibly starting briefly as light freezing rain in some locations. The light rain will continue through the day, becoming heavy at times at night and continuing into early Monday morning with temperatures rising to the upper 40's to lower 50's by Monday morning, then dropping in the late morning, reaching the mid to upper 30's by afternoon, then the 20's by evening. The heavy rains combined with the rapid snow melt may cause some flooding. The winds will also become quite gusty, with gusts to 40 mph possible on Monday afternoon. Temperatures will then plummet overnight, reaching the mid single digits below zero by Tuesday morning and highs on Tuesday only in the single digits. Temperatures will then drop to around zero again on Wednesday morning. Then on Thursday a weak storm system may approach, bringing the chance for some light snow on Thursday night that could accumulate to an inch or two. Then yet another storm system approach for Saturday night and Sunday and this system could be either rain or snow depending on the track that it takes. Then yet another storm will likely approach for the middle of the following week, centered around Wednesday, January 15th.
