Monday, January 13th, 2014 - Evening Weather Discussion

Make sure you read this whole thing.  The stuff gets really fun near the end, although the beginning is rather entertaining as well.  First of all we will get some rain tomorrow.  That may be the last rain you see for a while, maybe... THE JANUARY THAW IS APPARENTLY OVER... A storm will then start to develop near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina on Wednesday night. This storm will move northeast and strengthen into a fairly strong Nor'easter.  Most of the moisture should remain off shore, however, I am not yet fully certain of that.  Even still, the latest run of the European model manages to bring the possibility of an inch or two of snow on Wednesday night into Thursday, although as I said earlier the temperatures near the ground may be a bit too warm and could cause a wet non-accumulating snow or possibly even melt the snow completely before it reaches the ground and give some areas rain.  The areas most likely to change to rain on Thursday would be Northeast New Jersey, while Northwest New Jersey may remain all snow, maybe.  Now, I still believe it is possible for this storm to come closer to the coast and strengthen even more.  If the storm were to strengthen more it would pull more cold air into it and likely change everything over to snow for everyone.  I am not saying that will happen, but it would not surprise me in the least.  Then moving forward to Friday night into Saturday.  It looks even more likely that a stronger Nor'easter will affect our area.  Again, however, areas of Northeastern New Jersey may have temperature issues.  The Saturday storm right now initially appears to have a chance to give us a significant snowstorm with 4-5 inches currently being forecast by the European model, IF it is cold enough at the ground for it to be all snow and accumulate.  It is still a bit too early to determine how these two storms will work out.  Then it looks likely that a weak storm will bring us more snow on Sunday night, probably a dusting to an inch.  Then cold air will likely move in with a high temperature of around 10 degrees on Monday.  Then the REALLY interesting possibility is for the middle of next week, centered on Wednesday.  It is looking as if there is a fairly decent chance of a very significant snowstorm centered on Wednesday of next week.  This storm continues to look as if it could be quite intense as well, with some initial indications that it would have the potential to reach blizzard classification for our area, and possibly be quite an intense one at that, especially up into New England.  The storm also has the potential to be slow moving, lasting 2-3 days, possibly starting on Tuesday and ending on Thursday.  PLEASE keep in mind that this is merely a possibility at this point, but I stand by what I am saying 100%.  I believe it is a very real possibility, however I MUST reiterate, that it is just a POSSIBILITY at this point.  Just because there is a chance DOES NOT mean it will happen.  I am just laying out the possibilities for you as I see them.  After that storm passes, there will likely be another chance for snow next weekend as well, and likely one for the following Tuesday.  Honestly, there is no end in sight right now to the cold and chances for snow basically every three days.  Check back for updates.
