Monday, January 27th, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

We will have a chance of a snow shower or a little light snow this morning, and then things will clear out.  Some areas will actually get above freezing today with a high in the low to mid 30’s, but temperatures will start to plummet late this afternoon.  Tomorrow will then be sunny but cold with a low around zero and a high in the low teens.  Tomorrow a low pressure area will start to take shape in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Southeast Coast of the United States.  This area of low pressure will bring some heavy snow to areas of the Deep South, including Central and Coastal Georgia, Central and Coastal South Carolina, Central and Coastal North Carolina, and Southeastern Virginia where 6-12 inches or more of snow will be possible.  The storm will however remain just off shore of New Jersey, keeping us cold and dry.  Then starting on Friday the arctic cold front will stall out just to our south, bringing us nearly daily chances at some precipitation.  The couple of disturbances seem to be timed for Friday and Saturday at the moment.  The type of precipitation that occurs will be dependent upon the position of this cold front.  It is too early to be sure of the type of precipitation to expect from these systems.  Right now the best guess is a mixture of precipitation on Friday and rain showers on Saturday.  Right now it looks as if we will warm up into the 40’s on Saturday, then the cold front will come back through by Sunday morning, bringing more normal temperatures back for Super Bowl Sunday but nice weather as well.  Then for next Monday night through Thursday morning we are likely to be affected by a much stronger storm that is likely to have copious amounts of moisture to work with as it approaches us from the Gulf Coast.  It is however too early to tell exactly what type of precipitation we will receive.  Be sure to check back for updates.
