The temperatures reached 5 below zero at my location and the
coldest temperature in New Jersey was at Walpack in Sussex County, with 13
degrees below zero this morning. These
are some of the coldest temperatures we have seen in 20 years. Another arctic cold front and associated
storm will start to approach our area tomorrow, this time however the storm
will take a track to our west, which will allow warm air to surge into our
area. The temperatures will rise through
the day tomorrow, reaching the upper 40’s to low 50’s by early Monday
morning. Light rain will develop in the
late morning tomorrow, possibly starting briefly as freezing rain in some
locations. The light rain will continue
into the night, becoming moderate to occasionally heavy late at night. The heavy rain will continue into the
morning, and then the cold front will come through in the late morning, causing
temperatures to drop rapidly to the mid 30’s by early afternoon, with the rain
changing to snow flurries and snow showers that could accumulate to a
dusting. It will also be windy, with
gusts of up to 40 mph possible on Monday afternoon. The temperatures will plummet to the mid
single digits below zero by Tuesday morning and the highs on Tuesday will only
be in the mid to upper single digits.
The next storm of concern will then be a weak storm system that will
approach for Thursday, bringing with it a chance for some light snow that could
accumulate to a dusting to an inch or two.
Then another storm is likely to approach on Saturday, possibly starting
as snow, but most likely changing to heavy rain by afternoon. After that, yet another storm is likely to
approach for the middle of the following week and this storm has the potential
to be quite strong, however it is still much too far out to tell whether it will
be rain or snow. Check back for updates.
