Sunday, January 26th, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

Today will be cold with a chance of a snow shower tonight.  Tomorrow we will have a chance of a snow shower again, but it will be warmer with a high in the mid to upper 30’s prior to temperatures dropping rapidly in the late afternoon or early evening.  Tuesday will then be very cold with a low around zero and a high in the low teens.  On Tuesday night a low pressure area is likely to develop in the Gulf of Mexico.  This storm may bring some significant snow to Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.  Some snow could make it as far north as Eastern Virginia and Delaware, and possibly even to extreme Southeast Coastal New Jersey.  However, the storm SHOULD go out to sea prior to making it into our area.  I am however going to leave a SLIGHT chance of snow in the forecast at this time for Wednesday.  My concern remains that the piece of energy responsible for producing this storm on Tuesday night into Wednesday is still over the open waters of the Pacific Ocean where there is little data for the models.  Once the piece of energy responsible for producing this storm comes on shore tomorrow the models should start getting a better idea of how that storm will develop and the track that it will take.  I do believe the storm will develop, but I also THINK it will miss us to the south and east.  But check back for updates just in case.  If the storm does miss us to the south and east, low temperatures will likely drop below zero on Wednesday morning.  Then another weak storm will bring us a chance for a snow shower on Thursday night and Friday morning.  On Saturday another weak storm system will bring us a chance for a bit of light snow in the afternoon.  A stronger storm system is likely to approach for Super Bowl Sunday, bringing a chance for warmer air to move into our area with the possibility of light rain or freezing rain for the Super Bowl, and rain next Monday morning.  Than an even stronger storm is likely to develop along the Gulf Coast next Tuesday and move in our direction.  It appears that next week we will be on the dividing line between rain and snow and the track that each individual storm takes will determine whether we get rain or snow.  It is simply too early to tell how each one of these storms will turn out right now.  But, what I can tell you is that this weather pattern is likely to get very active starting this coming weekend and the storms will likely have quite a bit of moisture to work with next week.  It is just impossible to tell whether we will be dealing with rain or snow storms right now for next week.
