It looks as if this storm that will be bringing snow to the
Deep South today will get close enough to us to bring us the chance of some
flurries tonight and possibly even a dusting of snow in some places. Coastal sections will actually have a chance
at 1-3 inches of snow. Moving forward,
there will be a chance of a snow shower on Friday, then a chance of a bit of
light snow on Saturday morning, changing to a chance of a rain shower on
Saturday afternoon and night. Then Super
Bowl Sunday should be nice with a high in the mid 30’s, and around 30 at game
time. Then we will have a slight chance
of snow on Monday. And then all eyes
will turn towards a developing low along the Gulf Coast. This storm will likely have a tremendous
amount of moisture to work with and it now looks as if it will be cold enough
here for a very significant snowstorm the middle of next week. It looks as if the snow may begin on Tuesday
afternoon and continue through the day on Wednesday, ending on Thursday
morning. Depending on the track that
this storm takes the snow could be quite heavy on Wednesday. I usually would not throw out snowfall
amounts this far out into the future but the ensembles are in fantastic
agreement with this storm potential.
This run of the European model produced 17 inches of snow for our area
and the ensemble mean even produced 10 inches of snow. Of course it is far too early to tell what
will actually happen with this storm. If
this storm takes a track a bit further to the north it would mean freezing rain
or even rain and a track a bit further to the south would mean less snow or no
snow at all, but at the moment there is absolutely the potential for this to be
a very significant winter weather event for our area. After this possible storm passes it will
likely get very cold once again with lows in the single digits and highs in the
teens with chances for snow the following Saturday and Monday.
