Wednesday, January 29th, 2014 - Evening Weather Discussion
Things are still on track for the possibility of two MAJOR snowstorms next week, but first, we will have just a slight chance of a snow shower on Friday and again on Saturday morning, then a chance of a rain shower on Sunday. Things should however clear out just in time for the Super Bowl, with a game time temperature in the middle to upper 30's, dropping to the low 30's by the end of the game. We will then have a slight chance of some snow on Monday. On Tuesday a low pressure area will form along the Gulf Coast and start moving in our direction. This storm will have copious amounts of moisture to work with, unlike many of the other storms we have had so far this winter. Snow should commence here on Tuesday afternoon and will likely become heavy at times and continue into Wednesday. On Wednesday the models are indicating that the snow could mix with or change to sleet or freezing rain, although I believe that is unlikely. The snow or freezing rain would continue heavy at times until Wednesday night. If this storm is all snow, and I believe it will be, total accumulations will likely be at least 6-12 inches, quite possibly 12-18 inches or more. After this storm passes it will get very cold for next Thursday and Friday. Then there is a good chance that a very intense Nor'easter will form along the East Coast, likely in our area. If this storm does indeed form it would have the potential to feature not only heavy snow, but high winds as well, as the models are indicating the possibility for explosive development of this storm. This storm potential needs to be watched very closely. We will just have to wait and see how this all works out but there is definitely the potential for a very significant snowstorm for the middle of next week, followed by the potential for a very intense Nor'easter to form along the East Coast for next weekend. Please check back in the morning for the latest information.
