Sunday, February 2nd, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

We will have a wonderfully warm day today with a high in the upper 40’s.  There will be a chance of a shower this evening, possibly mixing with sleet or snow late at night as a cold front moves through our area.  Then tomorrow snow will develop as a low pressure area rides along the cold front that moved through.  The snow should develop around 6 am and will continue until around 4 pm with total accumulations of 3-5 inches across Northern New Jersey and Southeast New York and 5-8 inches across Central and Southern New Jersey, excluding Cape County.  Tuesday should be nice in the morning, followed by increasing cloudiness as a low pressure area approaches from the Gulf Coast.  Snow should develop around 11 pm on Tuesday night and become heavy at times on Wednesday morning.  The rain could mix with sleet and freezing rain in Northern New Jersey and will be mixed with sleet and freezing rain south of Rt. 78, and there will be a sharp drop off in snow totals south of there.  The snow should end around 4 pm on Wednesday afternoon with total accumulations in Northern New Jersey and Southeastern New York of 5-10 inches.  Then we should have a nice Thursday and Friday.  On Saturday a strong storm is likely to start forming in the Southeastern United States.  The storm should intensify as it moves northeast and up the Eastern Seaboard.  This storm has the potential to bring very significant snow and ice as far south as Georgia, depending on how and where exactly it develops.  This storm should end up right off the New Jersey Coast by Sunday night and it will likely be quite strong, very possibly producing heavy snow and strong winds in the entire Middle Atlantic region and into New England.  The storm should then move out to sea by Monday morning.  We will have to watch this storm very closely to see exactly how and where it develops.  Please check back for updates.  After this storm passes we will likely get another storm toward the end of next week and this storm would have the chance to bring snow down into the Deep South as well.
