The impending storm will be bringing devastating freezing
rain to Northern Georgia, Northwestern South Carolina, and Central North
Carolina today, with heavy snow in Western North Carolina.
Tonight and tomorrow the storm will start moving northward
along the East Coast, brining heavy snow to Western North Carolina, Western
Virginia, Western Maryland, including Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Eastern
Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey, Southeastern New York, Connecticut,
Massachusetts (excluding southeastern sections), Vermont, New Hampshire, and
Maine. In these areas there will be
widespread 10-20 inch amounts, with isolated amount of up to 25 inches
possible.
In the Northern New Jersey area the snow should start
between 10 pm and midnight tonight and will end between 3 am and 5 am on Friday
morning. In Northeastern New Jersey
there is a possibility that the snow could mix with or change to sleet for a
few hours at the height of the storm on Thursday afternoon, prior to changing back
to snow by evening. Accumulations in
Northern New Jersey (north of about Rt. 78), in Southeastern New York, as well
as Eastern Pennsylvania (excluding extreme Southeastern Pennsylvania), should receive
10-20 inches with the possibility of localized accumulations of up to 25
inches, especially in Northwest New Jersey.
Winds will also be a problem, gusting 30-40 mph, with gusts
over 50 mph likely along the coast, with some coastal flooding possible.
The heavy wet snow, combined with strong winds may lead to
some localized power outages.
This is a picture the publisher of the Sanford Herald newspaper in Sanford, North Carolina sent me of the snow that fell there yesterday. If you did not get a chance, click here to read the article that I was in yesterday in their paper.
