It will be warm today but we will have a chance of
showers, especially tonight, with a high in the mid to upper 60’s.
Tomorrow will be quite nice with a high in the upper
60’s.
Sunday will be quite warm but there will be a slight
chance of a shower with a high in the mid 70’s.
Monday will be amazing, with a high in the mid to
upper 70’s as warm air surges north into our area ahead of a strong cold front.
Tuesday will be a crazy day with showers and
thunderstorms heavy at times and the thunderstorms could be quite strong. Temperatures will also drop quickly in the
afternoon from a high around 60 to the mid to upper 30’s at night.
Early Wednesday morning the rain could even mix with
or change to snow, sleet or freezing rain as the temperatures drop to the low
to mid 30’s and there is even a chance of some accumulation, especially in the
higher elevations of Northwest New Jersey.
Right now I calculate a 50% chance of the rain mixing
with or changing to snow, sleet or freezing rain early on Wednesday morning,
and a 25% chance of significant amounts of snow or ice, so please keep checking
back for updates.
Please keep in mind that when there is a 50% chance
of the rain mixing with sleet and ice, this also means there is a 50% chance it
won’t. So, I am NOT saying it will mix
with snow or ice, I am just saying that there is an even chance that it
might.
After this storm passes it will be quite chilly with
a high on Wednesday only in the low 40’s and the upper 40’s on Thursday.
Temperatures will then remain chilly with highs
mainly in the 50’s through the Easter weekend and into the following week.
So, why is there a chance we could see some snow and
ice next Wednesday morning? Well, the
Polar Vortex will make a return visit to Southeastern Canada behind the cold
front on Tuesday night. A storm may then
form along the front and throw precipitation back into the cold air behind the
front early on Wednesday morning. If the
storm forms it could definitely bring us a bit of snow or ice. The question is whether it will form and
where exactly it tracks if it does. We
shall see.
Below are some interesting snowfall maps from a
couple of major April snowstorms that I have seen in my life in our area, just
to show it that it can snow in April, even if it does reach nearly 80 degrees
the day before. Of course, there were
many other times we received snow in April, and later in the month as well, but
those the ones depicted below are the two big ones.

And click here to view the State
Climatologist web page where he states that it can snow in Northern New Jersey through
the end of April.
