Friday, October 31, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

Happy Halloween!

An absolutely fascinating situation is developing along the East Coast of the United States…

A strong upper level low pressure area (a piece of the Polar Vortex) is diving south from Canada into the United States today.  This piece of energy will reach coastal South Carolina tomorrow afternoon.  As it does so it will bring very cold air to the entire East Coast.

This morning the low has reached an amazing 28 degrees at my weather station in Panther Valley, Allamuchy Township, Warren County, NJ.

As the strong upper level low crosses the Southern Appalachian Mountains tomorrow it will bring an early season snow to the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, and there is even an outside chance of some snowflakes in the air in parts of Northern Georgia and Western South Carolina.

As the very cold upper level energy hits the warm waters of the Coastal Carolinas and the very warm Gulf Stream waters off shore, the storm will intensify rapidly and move northeastward.

Light rain could start to develop as early as around 10 pm this evening in parts of Northeastern New Jersey and around midnight in parts of Northwestern New Jersey, as the low pressure area starts to develop Near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

Tomorrow is likely to be a rainy, cool, dreary day, especially in the morning.  Temperatures will be in the low to mid 40’s all day.

The rain may taper off to just some light rain/drizzle, showers tomorrow afternoon or evening, and then end at night.

Northeastern New England could then get pummeled by heavy rain and heavy snow.

This whole forecast depends though upon the exact track that this storm takes and where and how it exactly develops.  Keep in mind, the storm has not even started to form yet, so there is still a possibility that this track could change a bit.  So, be sure to check back for updates.

After this storm passes it will be nice but cool Sunday through Tuesday, with temperatures gradually rising from the mid to upper 40’s on Sunday, to the low 50’s on Monday and the upper 50’s on Tuesday.

Next Wednesday will be warmer as warm air surges into our area ahead of an approaching cold front.  Temperatures should rise to the low 60’s but there will likely be some showers in the afternoon or evening as the front passes through.

Thursday there will be a chance of a shower in the morning and it will be cooler with highs in the low 50’s.

Next Friday there will be a chance of a snow shower early in the morning, and then it will be sunny but quite cool with a high only in the mid 40’s.

Next Saturday should be quite nice but cool with a high only in the mid 40’s.

Next Sunday a cold front will approach, bringing warmer temperatures and a chance of rain at night with a high in the low 60’s.

Next Monday through Wednesday should be quite nice with temperatures gradually warming from the low to mid 40’s on Monday to the low 50’s by next Wednesday.

Next Thursday there will be increasing cloudiness with warming temperatures ahead of the next cold front.  Highs should be in the mid to upper 50’s.

Have a great day!
