VERY complicated and very unsettled period ahead this
week and especially next week …
We will have cloudy skies today with a chance of a
snow flurry this morning, then light snow may develop between 7 pm and 10 pm
tonight, then change to light sleet, then to light rain by around 1 am.
There is the possibility for some of the colder locations in Northwestern New
Jersey to remain below freezing until around sunrise with light freezing rain,
although most areas should rise above freezing by 1 am. Total possible
snow and ice accumulation is a dusting to an inch, especially in Northwestern
New Jersey.
Tomorrow, after the changeover to rain happens early
in the morning, we will have rain and it could be heavy at times in the
afternoon and evening. The rain may then change back to light snow or
flurries between 10 pm and midnight with a dusting to an inch of accumulation
possible, especially in Northwestern New Jersey.
Tuesday we will have a chance of light snow or
flurries ending early in the morning, followed by clearing and it will be VERY
COLD with highs only in the upper 20’s to low 30’s.
Wednesday will then be very cold with lows ranging
from the mid teens in the coldest locations of Northwestern New Jersey to the
low 20’s and highs only in the low 30’s.
Thursday will be a bit warmer with variably skies and
highs in the low 40’s.
We will need to keep a close eye out for the potential
of a weak storm to approach from the west on Friday. There may very well
be quite cold air in place at that time. If this storm does really
happen, the temperatures could remain below freezing the entire day on Friday
with the snow, meaning that it would likely accumulate, even on the roads,
especially in Northwestern New Jersey. Right now this storm looks similar
in the data to the storm that we saw this past Thursday night but we will have
to wait and see, especially with the even colder temperatures that are
possible. Highs should be mainly in the low to mid 30’s.
Next weekend then looks nice, but cold, with lows in
the low to mid 20’s and highs in the mid 30’s on Saturday and around 40 next
Sunday.
Then, unfortunately, Thanksgiving week looks rather
horrendous as a strong storm system may develop over the Southeastern states
and move northward into the Great Lakes. This would bring us much warmer
weather but chances for rain from Monday through Wednesday morning and it could
be heavy with some flooding on Tuesday. Temperatures could rise to the
low 50’s next Monday and the mid 50’s next Tuesday, before dropping back to the
upper 40’s next Wednesday.
After the storm passes next Wednesday afternoon,
things should cool down for Thanksgiving Day through the following weekend, but
there will be chances for rain or snow each day. Highs should be in the
low 40’s.
Be careful if driving this evening and again tomorrow
night and we need to watch the Friday storm potential closely.
Have a great day!
