Very changeable and unsettled weather ahead…
A frontal system will be set up west to east across our area
through Friday night. It will wiggle and
waggle back and forth north and south of our area through Friday night.
It already moved north of our area last night bringing
warmer weather today and tomorrow with highs in the mid to upper 40’s today and
the low to mid 50’s tomorrow.
The front will then start to move south of our tomorrow
night, bringing some showers in the afternoon as it passes. The showers could change to snow showers
before ending on Monday night.
Tuesday will then be variably cloudy and colder as the front
will be situated to our south. The highs
on Tuesday should be in the mid to upper 30’s.
The front will then start to move north on Tuesday
afternoon, bringing us a chance of some light snow starting late in the
afternoon on Tuesday and changing to light rain by midnight on Tuesday.
Then Wednesday will be warmer with highs in the mid to upper
40’s and a chance of showers.
The front will then push south of our area again early on
Thursday morning, bringing a colder day on Thursday with highs in the low 40’s.
A weak storm system will then ride along the front on
Thursday night and approach our area, bringing with it a chance of light snow
on Thursday night into Friday as the front should be south of our area at that
time.
Then on Friday night the storm system will approach the
Middle Atlantic Coast and could turn into a Nor’easter. Depending on where this storm system develops
it will either push the front to our north and bring us rain for Friday night
through the weekend, or keep the front to our south opening up the chance for
snow this weekend. Right now I would
lean toward rain, but it is a close call and we will have to give it more time
to see how this all develops.
Things will likely clear out for next Monday into Tuesday
morning, and then another storm may approach the East Coast from the west and
could very well cause another Nor’easter to develop for next Tuesday night
through Thursday. Again, it is too early
to tell whether this would be rain or snow.
It will then clear out for next Friday and Saturday, then we
will have to watch for the potential of another Nor’easter to develop for next
Sunday.
One thing missing from the equation now is very cold
air. The very cold air is gone. The reason it got so cold the past few days
and we got all that snow in Northern New Jersey was because of the very strong
storm that had developed in the Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea that was
stronger than Superstorm Sandy. If you
remember, I had talked about that storm disrupting the global weather pattern and
dropping very cold air into our area. It
was this very cold air that caused the record breaking Lake Effect snow in New
York State and the heavy snowfall that caused numerous power outages in
Northwestern New Jersey. It did also
bring some beautiful scenery to our area for the holiday however. But now the effects of that global disruption
from the Superstorm are gone and we are back into an early winter-type
pattern. There will likely be numerous
opportunities for Nor’easters to develop along the East Coast over the next two
weeks; the big question is how much cold air will be available for those
storms? We will have to wait and see how
all this works out.
Be sure to check back in this evening for the latest.
Have a great day!
Posted below are some photos from the snowstorm taken on Thanksgiving morning in Panther Valley, Allamuchy Township, Warren County, New
