Brutal cold air has moved in to our area with wind gusts up
to 30 mph dropping wind chill factors as low as the single digits this morning.
The big question though is the holiday travel weather. There is nothing definite yet so I certainly
would not change any plans but we need to keep an eye on a storm that will be
developing over either the Southeastern United States or along the East Coast. Depending on where the storm develops next
week we will either have rain or snow, of if we get really lucky it could
develop far enough out to sea to miss us completely. It is much too early to tell, so for now it
is just something to keep in the back of your mind.
In the mean time it has gotten brutally cold with lows
dropping to the low to mid 20’s this morning throughout Northern New Jersey and
with winds gusting to 30 mph we are seeing some wind chills in the single
digits.
It will be nice through Friday with highs only around 30
today and tomorrow and lows dropping as low as the mid teens tomorrow
morning. The highs will rise to around
40 on Thursday before falling back to the mid 30’s on Friday.
Saturday should be nice but clouds will increase with a slight
chance of light rain or light freezing rain developing late at night and
continuing into early Sunday morning.
The highs on Saturday should be in the mid to upper 30’s.
Sunday we will have a slight chance of light rain or light
freezing rain early in the morning, and then it will be cloudy with rain
developing at night. The high on Sunday
will rise all day, reaching the low to mid 50’s at night.
Monday and Tuesday we will have a chance of showers and it
will be quite warm on Monday with highs around 60 as warm air surges north into
our area ahead of a cold front. It will
cool off a bit on Tuesday with highs in the low to mid 50’s but dropping late
in the day.
Tuesday night a low pressure area may form in either the
Southeastern United States or along the Southeastern Coast of the United
States. Depending on how and where this
storm develops, rain or snow may develop at night and continue through the day
on Wednesday. It is much too early to
tell details for this storm and there is still a chance it will develop far
enough out to sea to not affect us, so I definitely would not change any
holiday plans. It is just something to
keep in the back of your mind at the moment until we get close enough in time
to be able to put a handle on this situation.
Thanksgiving Day through next Saturday we should have
variably cloudy skies with a chance of snow showers and highs mainly in the
upper 30’s.
Next Sunday and Monday should then be mostly sunny with
highs around 40.
