Early season cold spell unlike any I can recall seeing, ever, to overtake the United States within about a week....
First though, we will have one more day of warm weather tomorrow before things cool off for quite some time as warm air continues surging northward into our area ahead of an approaching cold front. The high should reach around 60 tomorrow.
Thursday the cold front will approach and a storm system will develop along the front, right over us. This will bring us cool and rainy weather on Thursday with a high in the low 50's.
The steady rain should come to an end on Friday morning, with a chance of a shower continuing through the afternoon and into the evening when they may very change to snow showers or flurries before ending. The high on Friday will be in the upper 40's, dropping to the upper 30's in the evening.
Saturday should be mostly sunny but quite cool with highs only in the mid 40's.
Sunday we will then have a chance of showers or light rain with highs in the low to mid 40's. The rain will actually be falling from the clouds as snow all day on Sunday but will melt before reaching the ground in all locations.
Sunday night there will be a chance of a snow shower or flurry.
Monday we will have a slight chance of a shower and a high in the low 50's.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high in the upper 40's.
Next Wednesday we will have a chance of a shower in the morning as a very strong cold front will be passing through, with clearing in the afternoon. The high on Wednesday morning will be in the low to mid 50's, dropping into the 40's by afternoon.
Next Thursday there will be a chance of rain or snow and highs around 40. It is too early to give details about this potential, but it does seem as if there is a chance of at least a weak storm approaching next Thursday. If this storm develops, the track that it takes would determine whether it is rain or snow, although I am not even certain this one will happen.
Next Friday and Saturday will be variably cloudy with highs in the upper 30's.
Next Sunday is the storm that I continue to have a great deal of interest in and when I have this feeling, typically something happens around this date. We will have to wait and see but I continue to think that there may be a big Nor'easter centered around next Sunday the 16th. It is of course too early to tell whether it would be rain or snow, but honestly right now it looks more like a January weather pattern than a November one for the middle of this month.
I truly don't recall ever seeing anything like what I am seeing in the data right now for the middle of November as far as temperatures and a January type look for the middle of November. And this is not just for the Northeast but the entire country east of the Rocky Mountains. Truly something interesting going on. And no, this is NOT contradictory to climate change. Climate change can easily cause this as the cold air is displaced from where it belongs in the Arctic Circle and ends up in South Carolina as it did last week with record snows there in early November. It was colder this past Sunday in Jacksonville, Florida than it was in New York City.
