Thursday, December 25, 2014 - Morning Weather Discussion

Merry Christmas!  Who could have imagined we would have a White Thanksgiving, then we would hit 60 degrees on Christmas Eve and 62 degrees early on Christmas Morning?  Well, we did.  I had about 6 inches of snow the day before Thanksgiving, with some areas around getting a foot.  Then last night just before midnight it hit 60 degrees at my weather station, rising to 62 degrees between 1:30-2:00 am.

Moving forward, we will have two chances for snow next week but I am not yet certain at all that either will actually come to fruition.

First though, we will have variably cloudy skies today and mostly sunny skies tomorrow and Saturday with highs in the mid to upper 40’s today, the mid 40’s tomorrow, and the upper 40’s to low 50’s on Saturday.

Sunday a cold front will approach our area, bringing with it a chance of showers and highs in the mid 40’s.

Sunday night the cold front will push through, bringing colder air and a slight chance of snow on Monday and Tuesday.  A low pressure area will develop over the Southeastern United States and ride along the front.  Right now it looks as if this storm is likely to remain just to our south, bringing light snow as close as Southern and possibly Central New Jersey, but at the moment it does not look likely to come as far north as Northern New Jersey.  However, it is close and we will have to wait and see what the trends are over the next couple of days.

We should then have a nice but cold day for New Year’s Eve with highs only in the upper 20’s.

New Year’s Day and next Friday there will be a slight chance of snow as another storm system is likely to develop over the Southeastern United States and start moving northeastward.  This storm will again threaten us with snow next Thursday (New Year’s Day) and next Friday, but it may again not make it this far north.  We will again have to see how this trends over the next few days.  The highs on New Year’s Day and next Friday will be in the low to mid 30’s.

The storm may get delayed until next Saturday when it would most likely be rain with highs in the mid to upper 50’s.

Next Sunday and Monday we should have variably cloudy skies with highs in the 40’s.

Next Tuesday we will have a chance of rain or snow with highs in the low to mid 30’s.

Next Wednesday we will have variably cloudy skies with a chance of snow showers and highs in the mid to upper 20’s.
