I still can't get over how the storm ended up in the perfect spot for snow and was certainly plenty strong for snow, but no snow yesterday, although it snowed the day before at my mom's house in Asbury Park. I still think it had to do with the involvement of the storm coming back from Bermuda and bringing the warm air in with it.
Then the storm did a right hand turn as it reached New Jersey, completely scooting around the state, instead of pounding Northern New Jersey with heavy rain.
Basically we got very little real actual rain as it was all freezing rain instead of snow at the start, then after it warmed up and changed to rain it stopped and the main part of the storm completely missed us at the last minute.
Then today instead of the storm stalling south of Long Island as it was supposed to do and giving us more significant snow today it decided to go up into New England.
So who got the heavy snow? Northern New York State is still getting pounded and there are tens of thousands of people without power in Vermont alone, and I am sure there will be many more in New York State by the time this storm is over. I am sure that many locations in Northern New York will near or exceed 2 feet of snow. As for the rest of us, well, that is Mother Nature for you.
The chase is half the fun for me, although admittedly, it is much more fun when I get them right.
Anyway, moving forward...
I have a dusting here at my location so far and it is still snowing lightly and will likely continue to do so well into tomorrow. I still think most locations should get at least an inch but we will just have to wait and see. Right now Central New Jersey is getting the moderate snow and the radar is not very impressive at the moment but maybe something will swing around from New York State overnight.
We should still have some scattered light snow and snow showers tomorrow, ending finally tomorrow night. It will be cold with highs in the mid 30's.
Friday will be variably cloudy with a slight chance of a snow shower and a high in the mid 30's.
Saturday through Monday should then be nice with highs in the mid 30's on Saturday, the upper 30's on Sunday and the low 40's on Monday.
Tuesday we will have increasing cloudiness with a chance of rain or snow at night and highs in the low 40's.
Wednesday we will have a chance of rain or snow and highs in the mid 30's.
Next Thursday and Friday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 30's.
Next Saturday and Sunday we will have a chance of rain or snow with highs in the mid to upper 30's.
I am very interested in the storm for next weekend. This storm will feature a strong low pressure area moving along the Gulf Coast, then up the East Coast as a Nor'easter. No promises though on whether it is rain or snow or some kind of a mix. We will just have to wait and see.
