There were rather dramatic changes in the data yesterday that made it pretty clear that the big storm that was to be this weekend is simply NOT going to come together.  It appears that the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and Southern Virginia may still get a significant snowstorm out of this, but the storm will not become very strong and turn northward.  Apparently the piece of energy that was supposed to drop down from Canada and strengthen this storm and turn it northward is either not as strong as the data had originally indicated or it is delayed.  It may be that it is delayed as it now appears a weak storm may develop on Monday that was supposed to be a part of the Sunday storm.  The thing is that the cold air will likely be gone by Monday, so any storm on Monday should be rain.

Then a rather intense storm is likely to start to develop in the Tennessee River Valley on Tuesday as two strong pieces of upper level energy are going to drop down from Canada and merge into one very intense storm that will move northward into the Great Lakes.  This will allow warm air to surge northward up the East Coast on Tuesday and especially Wednesday, bringing a chance of a shower on Tuesday and the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds for Christmas Eve with highs reaching the low to mid 50’s.  Then behind the storm it will be cooler for Christmas Day with a chance of a snow shower.

We will then have the possibility of a rain or snow shower next Friday as a cold front approaches, then it will likely get quite cold behind the cold front for next weekend and we will have to watch for the possibility of a storm to develop that could bring us some snow next Saturday night and Sunday morning.

It will then get very cold after next weekend with highs likely not getting out of the 20’s and lows in the teens.  We will also have to watch for the possibility of a snowstorm for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Have a great day!
