Wednesday, December 31, 2014 - Evening Weather discussion

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!   2015 IS JUST A FEW HOURS AWAY!!!  Thanks to all of you for making this blog what it has become!

We will have nice but cold weather tomorrow and Friday with highs in the 30's.

Saturday clouds will increase with sleet, freezing rain or rain developing in the late afternoon or early evening and changing to rain heavy at times overnight.  The high Saturday should be in the upper 30’s in Northwest NJ to the low 40’s in Northeast NJ.

Sunday we will have a chance of showers, ending in the afternoon, and then it will clear out with highs reaching the upper 50's to low 60's as warm air surges into our area with the storm.

Monday will then be mostly sunny and cooler with highs in the mid 30’s.

Tuesday we will have increasing cloudiness as an Alberta Clipper approaches our area.  This Alberta Clipper will give us a chance of snow showers or light snow Tuesday night into early on Wednesday.  Alberta Clippers are fast moving weak areas of low pressure that drop down into the United States from Alberta Canada and move quickly across the Northern United States, then off the Middle Atlantic Coast.  They usually have very little moisture to work and they move very quickly.  Sometimes they can slow down a bit as they near the Atlantic Coast which allows them to pick up a bit of moisture.  Depending on the track and strength of this Alberta Clipper there would be a possibility of accumulating snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  One thing that is certain is that it will be below freezing and any precipitation that falls will be snow.  The big question is how much moisture this storm will have to work with and the track that it takes.  We will have to wait and see.

It will get very cold after this storm passes with lows in the teens and possibly even the single digits in Northwest New Jersey next Thursday morning, and highs in the 20’s next Thursday and Friday.

Next weekend a storm system will approach from the west, bringing a chance of either rain or snow and highs in the mid to upper 30’s.

Next Monday will then be mostly sunny with increasing cloudiness next Tuesday and highs in the mid to upper 30’s.
