Tuesday, January 20, 2015 - Evening Weather Discussion

Yeah, I am ready to make a bit of a call here...

First though, we will have a bit of snow tomorrow that will start between 2 pm and 4 pm and end between 5 am and 7 am on Thursday morning.  Total snowfall accumulations should be between about a half of an inch and an inch.

Friday should then be nice, with increasing cloudiness in the afternoon.

Friday one low pressure area will be moving along the Gulf Coast at the same time that another low pressure area is moving across Southern Canada.  The low pressure area in Southern Canada will transfer its energy to the low moving northward up the East Coast.  This will cause the storm moving northward along the East to intensify rapidly as it nears the Delmarva Peninsula by Saturday afternoon and then a position about 50-100 miles off the New Jersey Coast by Saturday night.

This will cause snow to develop here early on Saturday morning and continue throughout the day, possibly becoming heavy at times from the late morning into the evening.  Depending on how close the storm comes to the coast, it is possible that the snow could mix with or change to sleet, freezing rain, or rain.  We will just have to wait and see what happens over the next couple of days as new data arrives. There is the potential for significant snowfall with this storm. There is also the possibility of strong winds, potentially creating blizzard or near blizzard conditions in some locations.

Again, this is still a long way out, but this is the way it looks to me right now. The storm could also trend further out to sea and miss us completely.  We will just have to wait and see.

Sunday should be nice and then we will have a chance at another significant snowstorm Monday into Tuesday morning.

Next Wednesday should then be nice before we have another chance of snow next Thursday or Friday and again the following Monday.

Join me tomorrow morning for the latest information on this potentially significant Nor'easter on Saturday.
