Saturday, February 14, 2015 - Morning Weather Discussion

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!

A very dynamic day for Valentine’s Day…

The weather will get a bit crazy today as an Alberta Clipper and the Polar Vortex (see key terms to left of the page) approach our area. As the Polar Vortex approaches the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, off the coast, the Alberta Clipper will explosively develop, turning into another blizzard for New England and bringing us some snow and high winds as well.

The snow will develop between about 10 am and 2 pm from west to east and will become heavy at times from the late afternoon through tonight, with near blizzard conditions possible for brief moments in time as the winds will gust to 40-55 mph from late this afternoon through tomorrow morning.

The snow will come to an end between 9 am and 1 pm from west to east with total accumulations of 2-4 inches. There will be considerably blowing and drifting of the snow as well.

Monday will then be nice but very cold with lows dropping to the low to mid single digits below zero.

Tuesday another Alberta Clipper will approach our area in the evening at the same time that another storm system will approach from the southwest. IF these two storms merge they would bring us a significant snowstorm Tuesday night and Wednesday. There is however much uncertainty as to whether these two storms will merge. If they fail to merge we would likely just have some snows showers or flurries, so be sure to check back for updates.

Next Thursday through Saturday will then be quite nice but cold with highs only in the teens to low to mid 20’s.

Next Sunday and Monday AND Thursday and Friday we will again have a chance for snow as Alberta Clippers will once again threaten to combine with storms approaching from the southwest.
