Sunday, February 1, 2015 - Morning Weather Discussion

Significant snow and ice storm to start during the Super Bowl and continue into Monday evening...

I have cut back a bit further on the snowfall accumulations...

There will clearly be a good dump of snow at the start and until around 5 or 6 am, tomorrow morning but it will then start to mix with and then change to sleet and freezing rain everywhere, except possibly in the far northern areas. Then it will change back to snow between 11 am and 1 pm before tapering to flurries by 3-4 pm or so and finally ending around 7 or 8 pm.

My new accumulation forecast is as follows:

Pike County PA, Northwestern Monroe County, PA, Orange County, NY, Northern Sussex County, NJ, Northern Passaic County, NJ, 6-12 inches

Southeastern Monroe County, PA, Northern Warren, Southern Sussex, Northwestern Morris, Northwestern Bergen, Southern Passaic, Rockland County, NY, 3-8 inches

Southern Warren, Northern Hunterdon, Northern Somerset, Southeastern Morris, Southeastern Bergen, Northwestern Essex, 2-6 inches

Southern Hunterdon, Southern Somerset, Union, Southeastern Essex, Hudson, New York City, 1-3 inches

Mercer, Middlesex, dusting to 1 inch

I believe this will be my final call on this storm. I will however let you you know if anything changes.

Moving beyond this storm it will get very cold for Tuesday with lows in the low to mid single digits and highs only in the upper teens to low 20's.

Wednesday we will have a chance of some snow showers with highs in the low 30's.

Thursday a storm system will drop down from Canada at the same time that a storm system is moving along the Gulf Coast. If these two storms combine, they would have the potential to threaten our area with another significant snowstorm on Thursday into Friday morning. We will have to wait and see how this works out. This system may or may not combine into one storm. There is still much uncertainty with this potential. Be sure to check back for updates.

Then it will be nice on Saturday but cold with lows in the single digits and highs in the upper 20's.

Then things could get very interesting as we head into next Sunday...

A storm system is likely to drop down from Canada into the southeastern United States, reaching the Gulf Coast by next Monday morning. At the same time a cold front will be dropping down into our area. These two systems may then combine into a powerful storm system along the Gulf Coast that would then turn northward up the East Coast, becoming a strong Nor'easter. This would bring us the chance of snow from Sunday through Wednesday of next week as it will be a very slow moving system. I am truly intrigued with this storm potential. It is MUCH too early to tell if it will really happen, but there are some pretty significant signs that it will. We shall see.
