Thursday, February 26, 2015 - Morning Weather Discussion

We got a brief break from the snow, but it didn’t last for long…

I had talked all week long about the possibility of this storm turning further up the coast than what the models originally showed. The snow has indeed made it up the coast, with the moderate snow as far north as Southern New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the Southern Coast of Long Island.

My friend in North Carolina got 2 inches of snow the night before last and is getting nearly a foot of snow this morning and last night. His workplace put him up in a hotel so he would not have to worry about making it into work this morning and he just told me that the hotel has lost power. This is near Raleigh Durham, NC.

As for us today, we should just have a bit of light snow or flurries that could accumulate to a dusting to a half of an inch or so in some places, with up to an inch possible in Central New Jersey and on Eastern Long Island.

Moving forward, a cold font will stall out just to our south and low pressure areas will ride along this front, with the next storm approaching on Sunday, causing snow to develop around 1-2 pm and continuing through Sunday night, ending on Monday morning between about 8 am and 10 am with 1-3 inches of accumulation likely. The high will be in the mid 30’s on Monday.

Tuesday another storm will approach, causing snow to develop in the late morning or early afternoon, then possibly mixing with or changing to sleet and freezing rain at night.

Wednesday we will have snow, sleet, freezing rain, or rain depending on whether this front remains to our south or moves slightly to our north.

Thursday the front will likely be back to our south and another storm system will approach, bringing another chance for snow, ending on Friday morning.

Then Saturday and Sunday we will have another chance of snow as yet one more storm system may ride along the front.

Then finally, it appears that a warm-up is on the horizon, with high temperatures reaching the low 40’s early the following week with a chance of rain or snow next Tuesday and Wednesday.
