Wednesday, February 25, 2015 - Evening Weather Discussion

A bit of snow tomorrow and likely a lot more next week...

This week I watched the National Weather Service call for a chance for snow today while the most I ever said about today was a chance of some flurries. I had no idea what they were talking about with the chance for snow today.

But as for tomorrow, I had said for the past few days at least that there would be at least a slight chance of snow on Thursday as this storm could possibly decide to come a bit closer to us than the models were showing, yet the National Weather Service said mostly sunny for tomorrow until only this morning.

Well, the storm has indeed decided to turn further to the north tomorrow and will bring sections of North Carolina a foot of snow tonight. This storm will bring us only a bit of light snow tomorrow that could accumulate to a dusting to an half inch or so throughout our area, with up to an inch or two possible across Central New Jersey. Of course, at the last moment it could decide to turn even further north, although I don't expect that to happen. I will certainly be watching it very closely. But honestly, why the National Weather Service was saying a chance of snow for today with a storm that really had no chance at all of being more than a flurry for us, while forecasting sunny for tomorrow just amazes me. I don't know what they were or were not looking at.

Now, moving forward, I also saw what I believe to be some horrendous forecasting by a major New York City television forecaster tonight who is calling for rain on Monday? Really? Hey, anything is possible, but honestly, that is NOT what I am seeing. Only time will tell, but what I see is snow developing on Sunday night and ending on Monday morning with 1-3 inches of accumulation. He mentioned rain on Monday with a high of 41. I see it being over on Monday morning, then yeah it may get up into the 30's AFTER the snow has ended. Then he had no mention of the next storm that will approach on Tuesday night with more snow developing and going into Wednesday. He just showed a high of 41 again and sunny? Really? Sometimes I wonder if these guys even actually look to see what is going to happen or if they just read what some computer prints out that has no clue.

Anyway, after that storm passes on Wednesday we will likely have another threat for snow next Thursday night into Friday.

All these storms next week will result from a cold front stalling out nearby and waves of low pressure riding along them. In all seriousness, my best guess is that they all end up being chances for snow, but there is always a slight chance they go further north and become a mix or rain, but I just simply DOUBT IT. We shall see.

Have a wonderful evening.
