Monday, March 16, 2015 - Evening Weather Discussion

So, it looks as if it will snow on Friday...

First though, a strong cold front will approach tomorrow, bringing a chance of some showers in the morning and a chance of a snow shower in the late afternoon or evening. It will also become windy and colder in the afternoon, after a warm start to the day in the morning.

Wednesday will then be cold with highs only in the low 30's.

Thursday should be nice, but with increasing cloudiness late in the day and a high in the upper 30's.

Friday a low pressure area will start to form over Eastern North Carolina. This storm will then move northward, reaching a point about 50 miles off the New Jersey Coast on Friday evening. This will cause snow to develop on Friday morning. I am currently expecting 2-5 inches of accumulation from about Washington D.C, northward through Maryland, Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey (excluding possibly the extreme southeastern coastal sections), Southeastern New York State, New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

Please keep in mind that any track further south and east would lower accumulations or possibly even eliminate them, and any track further north and west would increase accumulations.

After this storm passes a strong cold front will approach on Saturday night, bringing a chance for snow showers and snow squalls that could accumulate a dusting to an inch.

Sunday and Monday should then be nice, but then I will be watching very closely for the possibility of a strong storm to form along the coast of the Southeastern United States on Tuesday. If this storm forms it will likely turn northward up the coast and intensify rapidly as it does so, bringing a snow threat to much of the East Coast, possibly as far south as the Carolinas next Tuesday and Wednesday. It is however still very much uncertain that this storm will form. Check back for updates.

After this storm passes we may have yet another threat for snow next Friday and a bigger potential threat for snow the following Monday.

Yeah, the snow threats may go right into early April...

Please join me in the morning for the latest information.
