Quick Afternoon Update

It looks as if our entire area will now get 3-4 inches of snow. Some of the areas across Northwest NJ may now get closer to the 3 inch mark than the 4 inch mark as the heaviest precipitation has somehow managed to go across Southern New York State and across Central New Jersey. So that is one small change.

Another small change is that the eastern half of Long Island may now get 5-6 inches of snow as this storm will develop into a weak Nor'easter once it gets south of Long Island.

Then as far as the Tuesday night into Wednesday morning storm goes, it looks as if we will get 1-3 inches of snow on Tuesday evening before it changes to freezing rain and sleet, with a tenth to a quarter inch of ice possible in some locations, then changing to rain and ending on Wednesday morning.

Then it is looking more and more likely that we may have a significant snowstorm on Wednesday night into Thursday morning as a storm will develop in the Southeastern United States and move northeastward along the front. The cold front should come through our area on Wednesday evening just as the storm is approaching. This would cause snow to develop on Wednesday night and continue into Thursday morning. It now appears that significant accumulations are possible with this storm. We will have a better idea when the European model ensemble mean comes out in about an hour and a half. Be sure to check back for updates.

More later after the European model ensemble mean comes out.
