Wednesday, March 4, 2015 - Morning Weather Discussion

Wow, was this a difficult forecast this morning…

The often very reliable European model and its ensemble mean continue to give us the most snow, along with the Canadian and Japanese models, while the American and British models have shifted the storm south.

My decision is to cut back on my totals a bit as the European model has let me down on more than one occasion this year at the last minute.

This does however leave us with a sharp cut-off to the snowfall totals tomorrow as you head north and west of about Rt. 78.

So much for the 50 degree temperatures today that some major forecasters continued to blab about for the past week or so.  Highs today won’t make it out of the 30’s.

This afternoon or tonight the light rain will start to mix with or change to sleet, and then it will start changing to snow between about 6 pm and midnight or early tomorrow morning as you head from the northwest to the southeast across our area.

The snow should then come to an end late tomorrow afternoon or early in the evening.

If the American and British models are right we may only get one or two  inches in Northern NJ tonight and tomorrow.

If the European and Canadian models are right we would get closer to 5 inches.

No matter what, central NJ and Long Island should get 3-7 inches or so.

Moving beyond this storm it will be cold on Friday and Saturday, then it will warm a bit but we will have a chance of a snow shower or a bit of light snow Saturday night through Monday.

It should then be nice and warmer next Tuesday through Thursday with highs in the low to mid 40’s.

Then next Friday night through Tuesday will likely be unsettled with a chance of rain, snow, freezing rain, or sleet each day.
