Potentially dangerous situation for the NJ Coast...

There is the potential for some serious problems along the NJ Coast if the latest runs of the European and American models are correct. Both of these models strengthen Tropical Storm Hermine back to hurricane strength Sunday, then loop it back towards the NJ Coast late on Sunday. The models are currently indicating the potential for wind gusts of up 90 mph along the Central and Southern NJ coastal areas. The high winds combined with the slow speed of the storm, as it will sit and spin off the NJ Coast through the day on Tuesday, will likely cause some severe flooding along the coast. There is the potential for disastrous coastal flooding. Let's hope that the storm turns further out to sea on future runs.

In addition to the potential for damage to coastal areas, there will be the potential for flooding rains across the southern half of New Jersey, basically from Burlington and Monmouth County southward, where one to as much as 7 inches of rain could fall from northwest to southeast as you reach the NJ Coast near Atlantic City. Rainfall amounts will drop off substantially as you head north and west from Burlington and Monmouth Counties but still could reach 1-2 inches on Long Island.

Wind gusts will also be a problem throughout much of our area, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph possible as far north as about Morristown and NYC and up to 90 mph along the NJ Coast. In fact the entire Allentown and New York City Metropolitan areas and up into Northeastern PA, Southeastern NY State and Fairfield County, CT may have wind gusts over 30 mph. So, if you have any loose items lying around outside, you will want to keep a close eye on the forecast again tomorrow because you may have to bring them inside.

The worst of the storm in our area will be Sunday and especially Sunday night. Things should then start to gradually clear Monday and especially Tuesday.

Highs will be in the low to mid 70's tomorrow, the mid 60's to low 70's Sunday, the low to mid 70's Monday, then warming to the 80's Tuesday, as Hermine finally moves away.

Wednesday through next Friday should then be nice, with just a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm Thursday and next Friday. It will start to get hot, with a heat wave possible as highs reach the low to mid 90's in many places Wednesday through next Friday.

Next Saturday and Sunday should then be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm and highs in the 80's.

Next Monday through Thursday then look nice and cooler with highs in the 70's, possibly rising to the low to mid 80's next Thursday.

Have a wonderful evening but please be sure to check back for the latest information early tomorrow morning. This is a potentially dangerous situation for coastal sections...
