Potential catastrophe along the Florida East Coast…

Well, there is simply no easy way to say this, and I don’t say it lightly. This is a potential catastrophe along the East Coast of Florida from about West Palm Beach to Jacksonville.  Landfall is expected between 1 am and 7 am somewhere between Port St. Lucie and Cape Canaveral. Winds are likely to gust to 120-140 mph along the coast and up to 100 mph as far inland as Orlando. Well, let’s hope for the best, but let me just say that this is a bit scary. I just hope that it is not as bad as it currently looks.

The next problem will be rainfall amounts further north as the storm tracks along the Georgia and South Carolina Coasts and then south of the North Carolina Coast. Rainfall amounts of up to 20 inches are possible across Eastern South Carolina and Southeastern North Carolina. This would of course cause significant flooding, not to forget about the coastal flooding that will occur along the coast in these places as well, and the coastal flooding could also be quite substantial.

As for the New York City and Allentown Metropolitan areas, we will have much nicer weather over the next 10 days with a beautiful day tomorrow and highs in the upper 60’s to the mid 70’s, followed by a chance of a shower or thunderstorm Saturday afternoon and night as a cold front passes through our area. Highs Saturday will range from the upper 50’s to low 60’s in Northeastern PA to the upper 60’s in Central NJ.

Sunday through Wednesday then look nice with highs in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s Sunday through Tuesday, rising to the mid to upper 60’s Wednesday.

Next Thursday will be variably cloudy with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm and highs in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s.

Next Friday through Sunday then look nice with highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s next Friday and Saturday, and the low to mid 60’s next Sunday.

Next Monday and Tuesday then look variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm and highs in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.

Next Wednesday looks nice with highs in the mid to upper 50’s

Have a wonderful evening and let’s hope for the best for our friends along the Southeastern Coast of the United States…
