Thursday, October 26, 2017 - Evening Weather Discussion

Strong Nor’easter Likely Sunday…

Tomorrow will be nice with highs in the mid 50’s to low 60’s.

Saturday clouds will increase in the afternoon and evening as a strong cold front approaches from the west at the same time that a tropical system approaches from the south. Highs will be in the 60’s.

Sunday the approaching cold front and tropical disturbance will combine along the Middle Atlantic Coast to form a strong Nor’easter with very heavy rain and strong winds.

It is indeed our time of the year for strong storms. Superstorm Sandy, the freak October snowstorm the year prior to Sandy, and the F-2 tornado that nearly hit my home in Great Meadows, NJ on October 26, 1981 at 7:23 pm.

We may be on the verge of another storm to remember on Sunday. Some data is indicating the possibility of as much as 2-6 inches of rain throughout our area and winds of up to or exceeding 60 mph. If this data is correct, we would have severe flooding in parts of our area and many trees could be uprooted and damaged, possibly causing widespread power outages. Let’s hope the data showing lesser impact is correct.

Highs Sunday will be in the upper 50’s to mid 60’s.

Monday rain will end in the morning, followed by clearing. The rain could mix with snow in the highest elevations of Northeastern PA prior to ending. Highs will be in the upper 40’s to mid 50’s.

Tuesday will be nice with highs in the 50’s.

Wednesday and next Thursday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower. Highs will be in the mid 50’s to low 60’s Wednesday and the upper 50’s to mid 60’s next Thursday.

Next Friday through Wednesday then look nice with highs in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s next Friday, the mid to upper 50’s next Saturday, the mid 50’s to low 60’s next Sunday through Tuesday, and the 50’s next Wednesday.

Have a wonderful evening!
