Tuesday, January 22, 2019 - Morning Weather Discussion

Cold easing today, rain tomorrow afternoon into Thursday, possibly heavy, and then watching early next week…

If you have any weather related photos or videos you would like to share here on this blog, please forward them to edgeweather2@gmail.com with your name and town.

Below is a photo of the snow and ice on and near Route 23 last night in Franklin, Sussex County, NJ, submitted by David Conca. Thanks for the pictures David!

Today will be nice with highs in the 20’s to low 30’s.

Tomorrow rain will develop in the afternoon and evening from west to east as a cold front approaches from the west. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Thursday there will be rain, possibly heavy at times in the morning, ending in the afternoon and evening from west to east as the cold front and disturbance pass through our area. There could be some flooding with total rainfall amounts of 1-2.5 inches likely throughout our area. Highs will be in the upper 40’s and 50’s in the morning and then dropping in the afternoon.

Friday through Sunday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of a flurry Friday and Saturday. Highs will range from the low to mid 20’s in Northeastern PA to the mid 30’s along the coast and on Long Island Friday, to the upper teens to low 20’s in Northeastern PA to the low 30’s in Central NJ Saturday, and from the upper 20’s to low 30’s in Northeastern PA to the upper 30’s to low 40’s in Central NJ Sunday.

Next weekend a disturbance will develop in the Gulf of Mexico and move eastward across the Florida Peninsula, reaching a point off the Southeastern Coast of the United States. At the same time a disturbance will be dropping down from Canada, through the Plains States, and heading towards the Middle Atlantic. If these two disturbances come close enough together they would merge and form a strong Nor’easter that would affect our area next Monday night and Tuesday. If they fail to merge, the stronger disturbance off the Southeast Coast would just slide harmlessly out to sea, and then the second disturbance would pass through our area next Tuesday, with lighter precipitation. We will just have to wait and see how this works out.

This will mean increasing cloudiness with a chance of rain or snow Monday night and Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to low 40’s Monday and the 30’s next Tuesday.

Next Wednesday through Monday then look nice, with just a chance of a flurry next Friday and a rain or snow shower next Monday. Highs will range from the mid teens in Northeastern PA to the low 30’s near the coast and on Long Island next Wednesday, to the teens to low 20’s next Thursday, the upper teens and 20’s next Friday and Saturday, the 20’s to low 30’s next Sunday, and the mid 20’s to low 30’s next Monday.

Have a fantastic day!
